PRINCIPAL'S PIECE

Kia ora HPS whānau,

At Howick Primary School, we believe in giving your best—whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or in daily life. Putting in your best effort helps build resilience, character, and a sense of pride in what you achieve.

Since our last newsletter, our students have had a number of opportunities to demonstrate this value through sport.
We’ve had teams participate in HPPA Cricket, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 swimming carnivals, and students representing our school at the HPPA Swimming Sports—where they performed brilliantly and showed great sportsmanship.

A big thank you to Mr G, Mrs Snyman, and Susie for leading these opportunities, and to all of our staff and wonderful community members who supported the events and made them such a success.

We’d like to extend a big thank you to everyone who supported our recent Kidney Kids Fundraiser. With your generosity, we raised $450, which will be donated to Kidney Kids NZ to support children living with kidney disease and their families. It’s fantastic to see our school community coming together for such an important cause.

SAFETY AT THE SCHOOL GATE

I want to take a moment to talk about safety at the school gate. We’ve noticed an increase in parents calling their children across Willoughby Avenue during pick-up times. This is a very busy road, and while we know it can be tempting to get away quickly, it is crucial that we all model and reinforce safe behaviours. Please help us by encouraging your children to use the zebra crossing every time—it’s a small act that builds lifelong safety habits and helps keep everyone safe.

Let’s continue to work together to support our tamariki to do their best, be safe, and make the most of every opportunity.

Ngā mihi,
Michael Earl
Principal

Howick Fun Run

A huge thank you to Mrs Snyman, as well as the wonderful parents and staff members who attended the Howick Fun Run!
It was the best turnout our school has had in many years, and Mrs Snyman is incredibly proud of you all. What a fantastic way to show our school spirit and community support!

STEM Project Donation Request: Support Our Creative Journey!

We are excited to announce that this year, Mr G would like to do photography and videography with our senior students. To capture these creative moments, we’re turning to a cost-effective resource: old cellphones with quality cameras!

How You Can Help:
We’re collecting old cellphones that meet the following criteria to be repurposed exclusively as cameras for student projects:
  • Fully Functional: The cellphone must be in working order.
  • Clean Slate: Please ensure that all personal details—such as logins, photos, contacts, etc.—have been completely removed.
  • Factory Reset Required: The phone should be restored to factory settings.
  • Complete Accessories: A matching charger is required (include the data cable if applicable).
  • Unlocked Device: The phone must be completely unlocked (no pin, password, fingerprint, or facial recognition).
Once the cellphone is donated, Mr G will perform a full wipe and lock the phone so that it can only be used as a camera by our senior students.

Donation Drop-Off Locations:
Please bring your donations to either:
  • The main office
  • Mr G's room (located under the hall)
Your support not only contributes to a fun and educational project but also gives new life to old devices. Let’s empower our students to explore their creativity through technology. Thank you for your generous support!

For any questions, feel free to contact Mr G directly - m.grimmer@howickprimary.school.nz

Auckland Regional Dental Service (ARDs)

Dear parents and caregivers,

The Auckland Regional Dental Service (ARDs) is a Health NZ/Te What Ora-operated service, which provides FREE dental care to children across the greater Auckland areas. In order to prevent any eligible children missing out on receiving free dental care, ARDs is cross-checking their own records with school rolls.

For our children's better oral health and wellbeing, our school roll will be shared with the service as required. To find out more information about ADs, please visit ards.co.nz or call 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583).
