It is a privilege to be writing to you. We are in Week Three already and the term has kicked off what promises to be an incredible year at Howick Primary School. The school grounds are once again buzzing with energy, and I want to extend a sincere thank you to our parents, caregivers, and
|
|
|
|
staff for ensuring a positive start to the term. Seeing our tamariki arrive with smiles and ready to learn is the best start we could ask for.
|
Please take note of a few important administrative and community updates as we settle into the term. Firstly, until further notice, our Uniform Shop will only be open in the mornings on a Wednesday; we appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Looking ahead to our sporting calendar, our Year 4–6 Swimming Sports will be held on Monday, 9th March, and we look forward to seeing our senior students dive in and demonstrate their great sportsmanship.

Finally, I would love to invite you all to the first Friends of Howick Primary School meeting of the year, held next Thursday in the staffroom at 6:30pm. It is a fantastic way to get involved in our school community, and we always welcome new faces and fresh ideas!

Auckland Regional Dental Service
|
Dear parents and caregivers,
|
The Auckland Regional Dental Service (ARDs) is a Health NZ/Te Whatu Ora-operated service, which provides FREE dental care to children across the greater Auckland areas. In order to prevent any eligible children missing out on receiving free dental care, ARDs is cross-checking their own records with school rolls.
|
For our children’s better oral health and wellbeing, our school roll will be shared with the service as required. To find out more information about ARDs, please visit ards.co.nz or call 0800 TALK TEETH

Garden to Table is BACK at Howick Primary School!
We are so excited to have our Year 4/5 and Year 6 students from Rooms 1 and 4 kicking off our Garden to Table program for the term! This week was all about getting stuck in and learning some fantastic new skills.

Prep time! Students worked hard chopping up fresh ingredients to make a delicious pasta sauce.
|
Getting messy in the kitchen! From mixing dough to chopping veggies, everyone was involved.
|
A grand feast! Our table was set with a very impressive, gigantic pumpkin! . We can't wait to see what they grow and cook next.

Hosting Opportunity: Visiting Students from Taiwan
In May, Howick Primary will host a group of visiting students from Taiwan. We are looking for families interested in hosting two students (aged 10–11) for a two-week period.
|

Students: 2 students per home.
|

|
Duration: Two weeks in May.
|

|
Requirements: Provide a bedroom and daily meals, and include the students in your usual family routine.
|
This is a practical way for our students to connect with peers from a different background and for families to host international visitors.
|

Home Run Success: Howick Primary Softballers Shine!
Last Wednesday, our softball team hit the diamond for an unforgettable tournament. Despite some pre-game nerves—and for many, it being their first time playing after only a few practices—the team quickly found their rhythm.
|
While there was some natural anxiety at the start, that soon vanished as the players began to work together. The real highlight wasn't just the skill on the field, but the confidence and encouragement the students gave one another. By backing each other up and staying positive, the team played with heart and scored run after run.
|
The results speak for themselves: 3 games played, 3 games won! A huge thank you to Mr. G for his coaching, Mr. Earl for his support, and Bentley’s dad for umpiring. It was a wonderful day of teamwork and school pride.
