Welcome to a brief newsletter update. As we are now approaching the end of the term, we just have a few quick event and date updates to keep you in the loop for these final weeks—including details about our upcoming Pōwhiri and our exciting Football World Cup Non-Uniform Day!

Before you check out the details below, I want to draw everyone's attention to the fantastic Mid-Winter bake sale held today. The turnout was incredible, and the delicious treats were a massive hit with the students.
|
|
|
|
A special shout-out and a huge thank you goes to Hannah and Zeena for leading this initiative, along with their amazing Friends of Howick School support team. Your hard work and dedication make a world of difference to our school community.
|
As we head into a busy few weeks, I want to bring some critical upcoming dates to everyone’s attention. Please mark your calendars for the following events:

We are bouncing off the walls (and we can't entirely blame the sugar overconsumption!) to share that because of your incredible hard work and generous offerings, we raised $916.20 at the school bake sale today!
|
Whether you spent your evening baking delicious treats, volunteered your time to run the tables, or did a bit of both, we could not have done this without you. Truly.
|
Your generosity and community spirit made the entire day a massive success. Every dollar raised will go directly toward supporting our school's upcoming projects and student activities. You all are making magic happen at Howick Primary School!

Friends of Howick Primary FOOTBALL WORLD CUP NON-UNIFORM DAY FRIDAY JULY 3RD
|
Join us on the last day of term for a fun Football World Cup-themed non-uniform day!
|
Students are invited to dress in the colours of their favourite football team or represent their home country. There is no charge to participate in mufti day.
|
|
• Sportswear inspired by your favourite country or team
|
Sausage sizzle & drinks sale available at lunchtime - everything $2
|
Please send cash with your child if they would like to purchase lunch or a drink.
|
We look forward to seeing students celebrate football from around the world while helping raise funds for our school!

Thrive is coming to Howick Primary School in Term 3!
We are very excited to offer the Thrive Speech and Drama Programme to Howick Primary School from Term 3.
|
Thrive uses speech and drama-based activities to help children develop real-world confidence and communication skills.
|
Through fun, creative activities, children learn to:
|
- speak clearly and confidently
- use expression and creativity
- build teamwork and social skills
- think on their feet
- grow in confidence through storytelling, improvisation and public speaking
Our small group, 30-minute lessons will be held right at school during the school day, making it easy and convenient for students to participate.
|
Programme details:
• 30-minute lessons
• Small groups for maximum participation
• Lessons held at school during school time
• $220 per guaranteed eight-week term
|
To help introduce the programme, we will also be running FREE trial lessons for interested students to try before enrolling.
|
|
We are now taking expressions of interest for Term 3, 2026.
|
Spaces will be limited, so we encourage families to register their interest early.
|
|
We can't wait to meet the Howick Primary students and become part of the school community!

Notice: Upcoming Fibre Works & Traffic Disruptions
Please be aware that Chorus (via UCG) will be carrying out fibre upgrade works near the school at 3 The Link between 16 July 2026 and 12 August 2026.
|
While the actual work is only expected to take 5 days within this window, it will impact local traffic. Here is what you need to know:
|

Work Hours: On school days, works will run from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM to avoid peak drop-off and pick-up times. Traffic management will pack down one hour before finishing.
|

|
Disruptions: Expect temporary lane or road restrictions in the area.
|

|
Safety & Access: Traffic controllers, safety signage, and barriers will be in place. School and property access will be maintained at all times.
|
|
Please allow extra time for travel during this period and stay vigilant around the work zones. Thank you for your patience and cooperation in keeping our kids safe!

With the end of the term approaching, bookings are now officially open for the upcoming Kelly Club Holiday Programme. They have an exciting line-up of sports, cooking, arts and crafts, and fun day trips planned to keep the kids entertained and active. Call for Cultural Volunteers: Dance, Art & Language
|
To celebrate the diverse cultures at Howick Primary, we are seeking volunteers to help train our students in traditional dance, arts, and language. We aim to showcase these talents through performances at our school assemblies, providing our students with a platform to take pride in their heritage.
|
We Need Your Expertise
We are looking for families who can lead small groups of students during school hours in:
|

Traditional Dance & Movement: For example, the Samoan Sasa, Cook Islands Ura, or Indian Bhangra.
|
-
|
The Arts: Teaching traditional crafts like Māori Raranga (weaving) or Fijian Masi (tapa) patterns.
|
-
|
Language: Helping students learn basic phrases, such as "Mālō e lelei" (Tongan) or "Bula Vinaka" (Fijian).
|
Upcoming Cultural Focus Dates
We want to align our learning with significant dates celebrated across Aotearoa. Here are some of the upcoming opportunities where your help would be invaluable:

We also welcome support for Kiribati, Vanuatu, PNG, Tuvalu, Niue, Tokelau, and Solomon Islands language weeks, or any other significant cultural dates your family observes.
